Yu Xin earned his undergraduate degree in Historic Preservation in Tongji University in Shanghai. Although in most case, most projects focus on the historic side of architecture, the 4-year study has trained him to read city and architecture in a broader perspective, respecting history, people and the living style of each individual. Meanwhile, in his works, he endeavors to test new possibilities, to create opportunities and bridging the traditional and new.

After undergraduate study, Yu came to Washington University in St. Louis to pursuit his Master degree in Architecture. The city which is perfect considering his major in historic preservation inspired him in many ways. There is always a strength and charisma that supports the city despite all the misfortune. Yu believe a piece of architecture always comes from the environment its in. While it also takes on the responsibilities to influence, improving and transforming the context in a positive way.

Through his studied, Yu has built up his knowledge and methodology in researching, designing and critical thinking. Yu is the recipient of Givens Scholarship of Sam Fox School. He also worked as the teaching assistant in Core Studio: Urban Housing.

In the last three years, Yu worked worked as a summer intern at HOK and Gensler in multiple projects. And he also participated as a major designer in two built project, the Riverlands Avian Observatory, a design-build studio led by Andrew Colopy and Ken Tracy in Collabration with Army Corp. and Audubon Society;  and the Cloudspace, in which he collaborated with AGENCY Architecture LLC and artist Wendy Mark in designing the installation, a custom-fabricated spatial and optical device, which is currently exhibiting at Jill Newhouse Gallery in New York City.
